Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at Repair@mnappliancerepair.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  • Check for any food or debris that may have fallen to the bottom of the dishwasher and remove it.  Remove the old food, remove the smell.  Sometimes when your dishwasher stinks, the fix really is that simple. Hopefully that’s the case for you. Sometime the smell of rotten eggs is just rotten eggs.
  • Clean the filter.  If your dishwasher has a filter, remove it and clean out anything trapped inside.  Food and caked grease will hide there, and before you know it, your dishwasher smells bad.  So, if your dishwasher has a filter, clean it out.
  • Be sure to consult your owner’s manual for help before attempting to service anything on your own.

  • Is the temperature of the water in the dishwasher correct?  Experts advise that you run hot water from the faucet into the sink before turning the machine on in order to bring hotter water to the machine.  This is one of the main issues of a dishwasher not cleaning the dishes well enough.
  • The water pressure in your home might also be an issue for the dishwasher, and this is something which you may have noticed when turning on faucets.
  • Your dishwasher detergent could be failing to get the dishes clean and it could the water in your area.  If you have a hard water at home, your dishwasher may have a hard time cleaning optimally.  The salt you add can counteract water hardness to an extent. But, if the water TDS exceeds 500ppm, most dishwashers won’t clean optimally.  Dishwasher tablets provide better results in such cases.  Or you may have to use salt, rinse aid and dishwasher tablets together for satisfactory cleaning.
  • It may be that you’ve been neglecting to clean the appliance itself.  Knowing how to clean a dishwasher correctly and doing so regularly is important as food debris, grease, and other deposits can all accumulate. If it’s not getting the dishes pristine, clean the interior first, along with the filter at the bottom of the machine.  You can find more help from your owners manual.

  • All modern dishwashers use a rinse aid to help in the drying of your dishes.  If the dispenser is filled with rinse aid, it could be the dishwasher’s not drying because the rinse aid isn’t being dispensed properly due to a buildup inside the dispenser.
  • Some dishwashers dry using a heating element in the bottom of the tub although this is more likely to be the case if yours is an older model as the appliance uses more energy to dry dishes this way rather than by condensation.  If your dishwasher does have a heated drying feature and it’s failing to dry, this could be because you need to activate the drying manually.
  • It might be an automatic feature of some cycles it may be necessary to turn it on for others. Check your model’s manual for details.
